Allumeria Building Tools: Block Shapes, Paint and Wallpaper
The three systems
Shapes. The Hammer changes the shape of a block in place, and the Forest Hammer does the same to stronger blocks. Want glass stairs or a dirt fence? That is the mechanic — shape is independent of material. Early Access 0.15 added a column shape (the log profile, applied to any block) and a vertical slab, and later clarified vertical slab placement to be based purely on facing direction.
Paint. The Paint Roller recolours any block in the game with no restrictions. Palettes ship in sets — the base ones plus three added in 0.15: Pixel (16 colours for pixel art), Greyscale (9 shades) and Desert (16 warm oranges, yellows and reds). Asset packs can now change paint colours too.
Light. Allumeria has a full RGB light engine, and lamps come in the colour range you would expect from that (blue, cyan, magenta, red, white, yellow, green — they are all in the item ID list). Since monsters only spawn on natural blocks, you can build as dark as you like inside a crafted structure without inviting anything in.
Blocks 0.15 added for builders
- Wallpaper base blocks in wood and stone, plus wood siding and stone siding
- Bookshelf and gravel
- Grass seeds, which spread grass — useful for landscaping rather than farming
- Watering can on grass now grows flowers and tall grass, and other things on other blocks
- Paintings got unique inventory icons and six new pieces: Sky, Alpha, Droplet, Ornate, Parthenon and Horse — the last of which is the first 3×2 painting
- Bubble mixture and a bubble machine, which are exactly what they sound like
If wallpaper is giving you trouble, note that 0.15.0 fixed wallpaper visually bugging out when applied over a large area, and that people searching for how to remove it are usually looking for the base block underneath — wallpaper sits on top of a wallpaper base block rather than replacing your wall.
Building at scale
For anything larger than a house, stop placing blocks by hand:
- Enable Allow Creative Menu in Options → Cheats, then press C with your inventory open to search for and spawn any block.
- Mark two corners with the Wand.
- Type
/set <block id>in chat to fill everything between them.
The item ID list is the lookup table for step 3, and the
commands page covers the rest of the chat commands, including /gentree, /genrail
and the dungeon generators.
Comfort is a building stat
Once NPCs are in the picture, your building choices become mechanical: the Comfort system reads whether a room is enclosed, its minimum and maximum light, natural light and which blocks are in it. A stone box and a decorated room score differently, and each NPC wants something specific — crafting stations for the Builder, sunlight for the Farmer, exposed lava and furnaces for the Blacksmith. The NPC and housing guide has the full list.
